Why I love being a mom

Sap alert...

Four Reasons I loved being a mom this week

1. Xander told me I'm the best mom in the whole world when I buckled him into his carseat. He also tells me that he loves me to the universe because the universe is "powwahful."

2. Dennis turned 7 and at first he wanted pizza for his birthday dinner. But then he said, "well, let's have tacos instead since they're gluten free. Then Eli won't have to have his own food."

3. Today during speech therapy, every time the speech therapist tried to get Eli to say something, he would turn to me and whine like he was tattling on her. I'd say the sound and he'd repeat it for me.

4. Lars almost dropped Eden the other day when she heard my voice and started moving around looking for me.

Jesus on the waves?

One of the downsides to sending Xander to preschool is that I don't get to hear everything he says first in context. Just like a foreign language, you learn it better when you hear the words in context. So to understand Xanderese, I really need to hear the words in context.

Last night, he insisted on singing a song he learned at school called "Jesus on the Waves." Huh? I had him repeat it again but it still sounded like Jesus on the Waves. He started signing and I realized he was singing about a whale. I said "you mean Jesus on the whale?" and he said, "no. Cheetos in the Way." Ummm... what? I was slow last night (that's my excuse) and it took me a good long time before I realized he was singing about "Jonah and the Whale."

Jesus on the Waves
Cheetos in the Way
Jonah and the Whale

I think I'm going to have a talk with his speech therapist...

Change in theme

Maybe not a change but certainly an expansion in theme. So far, I've babbled here and there about my silly children. I still plan on doing that, but I also want to add a bit to my blog.

So instead of just reading about my kids, you will also read my random thoughts on everything else. My health, my schooling, experiences jumping into another culture (Deaf culture that is), etc, etc.

I do enjoy hearing myself talk (or seeing myself type).

Signs of the Times

My kids are always interested in learning new signs for words. Recently, Xander asked me, "what the sign for 'horse,' mom?" So I showed him. He's been walking around saying "Nay nay!" while signing "devil."

Ok. That story is only funny if you know sign language **waves to Julia and Steve** The sign for "horse" and the sign for "devil" are very close. It's really just a matter of the positioning of 2 fingers.

Reminds me of a time in sign class when a classmate signed that her husband "ate the cat" rather than "fed the cat."
